The Village owns it's own water supply, operated and maintained
under contract by Manhard Consulting. There are several interconnected wells, storage, treatment
and testing facilities, and the distribution system. A major upgrade to the system
came on line in July 1999, which included a new well, many new mains, a
pressurized storage tank and provisions for diesel powered backup so that
pressure will not be threatened during a power outage.

The Village provides weekly garbage collection and waste recycling. Our
contractor for this service is Waste
Management. Tower Lakes has joined a
consortium of neighboring villages in order to negotiate the best possible
terms.
Customer Service: 1-800-796-9696
Collection dates are every Tuesday (Wednesdays following the 6 major holiday
weekends).
Place containers at the street. Please use 32 gallon containers with tight fitting
lids. Do not place them out for pick up earlier than the night before the
scheduled collection and remove them as soon as possible after pick-up. 90
gallon wheeled tote carts are available for a nominal monthly fee by calling
the above customer service number.
Call the above customer service number at least 24 hrs prior to the regular
service day to arrange for a special pick-up of appliances, construction debris or other
heavy items. There will be an extra charge. One large item (chair, TV, small
carpet roll, ...) per week will be picked up free provided it weighs less than
50 lbs.
YARD WASTE
Do not mix yard waste with your garbage. It is illegal in Illinois to put
yard waste in the same landfills with with regular waste so mixed garbage will not be collected. However, our waste contractor offers an optional
yard waste pick-up service for a small fee during the 9 warm weather months. These optional pick-ups are
also on
Tuesdays. Call
the number above if you wish to subscribe, which we strongly encourage. A
potentially even lower cost alternative is to buy stickers which allow you to
pay by the bag for yard waste pick-up. Books of stickers are available for
purchase at the Village Office during regular weekday office hours. Christmas trees
will be collected free if placed at the curb during the first two weeks of
January. Do not place trees in plastic bags. The Village also conducts free brush
and branch pick-ups in early May and again in the fall. Watch the Newsletter or
the News & Calendar pages on this site for
details. Burning of leaves and other yard waste is restricted to Oct 1 through
December 15 and April 1 through May 31, and only between the hours of 9 am - 4
pm on those days. Fires may not include lumber, may not be left unattended and may not be in
roadside drainage swales.
Tower Lakes is a member of the Solid
Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO). SWALCO provides public information and
education on waste disposal and recycling issues, develops plans for landfill
management, and conducts several household hazardous waste collection events
throughout the year. Public meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month
at 7:30 at the U of I Extension office on Rt. 45 in Grayslake. Watch the News
& Calendar pages of this site for information on hazardous waste collection events.
RECYCLING
All residents are encouraged to participate in the recycling program.
Recyclables
may be combined in one bin. Acceptable items include newspapers, magazines,
cardboard, glass & plastic containers and metal food & beverage cans.
Note that all boxes must be flattened and caps & lids must be removed.
Collection is scheduled the same day as the regular garbage pick-up. Call the Village
Office if you need replacement or additional recycle bins for a nominal fee.

The Stormwater Management Committee of the Village Board oversees the budget
for stormwater improvement and maintenance projects in the Village.
Any construction within 50 ft of the lakes, creek or wetlands requires a
permit from the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (LCSMC), according
to the County and Village Watershed Development Ordinances.
The Village is required to undertake several activities aimed at reducing
water pollution via the stormwater system. This US EPA program is called the
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Phase II (NPDES II). These
activities include record keeping, public education, inspection and annual
reporting. Here are some links to more information on NPDES II:
